Black Oak Seedling Project
THE BLACK OAK SEEDLINGS PROJECT is running well into our 2nd year with the planting of 56 Black Oak Saplings.
The saplings are the result of locally gathered acorns which have been planted by our local school children. 25 5th graders carefully surrounded the oaks with love and chicken wire baskets that stick up above ground to form protection from local mammals. Deer browse can be fatal to 1 year olds!
This years acorn gathering included Engelman Oak acorns which have been planted along with the Black Oak acorns. We now have about 150 planted.
Stay tuned for our next exciting hike into nature and community service project!
